Nappy Roots

The Legendary Hip Hop Group returns to the T-Bar!

Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Nappyness: In an economically recessed climate, Nappy Roots has joined the rest of the nation in trying to understand and work through financial and emotional struggles. No stranger to challenges, this four-man collective from Kentucky tackled their obstacles and, in the process, their self-honest work emerged in form of 5 studio albums and 10 mix-tapes. As usual, Nappy Roots examine our alienable rights, reason, and truth through lyrical originality and voyage.

Since Nappy Roots entered the music scene in 1998, they have remained real, humble, talented guys with inherent, undeniable southern swagger. After the international success of Watermelon, Chicken, & Grits, selling over 3 million albums, the members of Nappy Roots were flying high while still acutely aware of how far it could be to the bottom should they fall. It is that practical and genuine presence of mind that helped them sustain touring as a group these last ten years. Building a vastly loyal fan-base nationwide, fans and friends can be used interchangeably when referring to their army of followers.

For most people, it is normal to only share intimate moments with friends, but for the members of Nappy, it is no different when in their living room, studio, or on stage, as they possess the gift of honesty and deliver that message with charisma. That truthfulness is especially reflected in this compilation inspired and written for this moment in time.

After severing ties with Atlantic Record and going independent, it was inevitable change was his own for solo efforts. Nappy Roots had no choice but to keep it moving and did so as smoothly as possible. As the saying goes, “the show must go on,” and so it has, obstacles included.

With a heavy heart and no major label record deal, Nappy Roots knew they had to remain in pursuit of their destiny and, thus, Nappy Roots Entertainment Group was formed. The members of Nappy Roots were facing foreclosures and a mountain of stress in the jobless economy, but still they remained positive and pushed on, while never forgetting where they came from and what they had accomplished. With fans constantly communicating with the members online and at shows, the guys realized they weren’t the only ones having trouble.

With the release of their tenth mix-tape “SH!T’S BEAUTIFUL” and the departure of Big V from the group, as he left to pursue a solo career, Nappy Roots forges forward. Between touring and recording, the four-man group focuses on consistently putting out quality hip-hop.

A weak man with no vision, no diligence behind the vision, and no faith behind the diligence would have given up, but Skinny Deville, Fishscales, B. Stille and Ron Clutch did, can, and will handle this and more, all in the name of Nappy Roots.

The Storytellers

Indie-folk-rock ensemble performs a unique blend of roots-rock, Americana, country-blues, folk and bluegrass

One of the fastest rising folk-rock bands on the Los Angeles music scene, The Storytellers took only one year to go from busking on street corners of Pasadena and Santa Barbara to gracing stages of bars, taverns and regional music festivals all over Southern California. The Storytellers draw from the rich canon of traditional bluegrass, country blues, old time and folk music as a basis for inspired improvisations and intrepid vocal harmonies.

The LA Weekly has said of The Storytellers, “This band moves seamlessly through traditional and progressive musical approaches. One tune will echo Doc Watson, the next, Jerry Garcia. They find great joy in ‘folkgrass’ music and that joy is evident in their performances.”

Legendary folk music promoter Bob Stane stated: “The Storytellers are wonderful singers, and energetic, passionate players. We’re thrilled to have them spin their tales on our stage.”

The Storytellers perform every fourth Friday at Bon Vivant Market & Cafe in Atwater Village for their highly regarded monthly “Folky Fourth Friday” residency.

Founded in the Fall of 2017 as a duo, the complete band formed in February of 2018, performing more than 30 Los Angeles-area shows through the end of the year. This intensive schedule included a spellbinding set at The Love Street Festival, sharing the bill with Micky Dolenz, Wilson Phillips and Chris Stills.

The Storytellers have performed at such renowned venues as The Mint, Molly Malone’s and The Coffee Gallery Backstage, including defining performances on the main stages of The California Avocado Festival, The Village Unplugged, The Love Street Festival and the Huck Finn Jubilee.

The Storytellers’ strong musical chemistry allows them to bring soulful harmonies, delicate acoustic sensibilities, soaring grooves, tight rhythms, substantive storytelling and their own hippie, happy magic to every stage they stand on.

Proxima Parada

A blend of soulful and uplifting melody with hard-hitting rhythm into a sound distinctly their own

They’ve released several full-length albums independently and, with new songs written, are preparing to record their next.

Following the success of their last album, Próxima signed with New-York-City-based label, AntiFragile, and released Kind Reminder on Sept 27, 2019.

Starting in 2012 as a group of college friends wanting to extend their dynamic to their community in San Luis Obispo, CA, they never dreamed that their passion would reach a global audience, that they’d perform at beautiful historic venues and music festivals, that their songs would earn awards, that their music would soothe and inspire people around the world.

Zach Deputy

Zach will bring island-infused, drum ‘n’ bass, gospel-ninja-soul to the Loop.

Reflecting on his live shows, Zach says “music to me is about bringing people

together from all walks of life and living in the moment with a joyful heart!”

Deputy’s one man show creates a unique experience straight from the soul

every night, raw and uncut with absolutely nothing prerecorded. As a pioneer

of looping and synth guitar work well ahead of his time, he’s taken the

technology to uncharted lands delivering a pocket groove unique to the ears.

Zach says, “call me crazy, but I’ve always believed live music should always

be live, but I’ve also always loved a good tranced out dance party too.” With

this in mind he tailored his performances to meet his convictions. Combining

his family roots Island vibe with his low country southern soul, a pinch of

tranced out hippy hop, and a vast amount of talent, Zach’s sound emerges in

focus.

Concertgoers can look forward to a unique live music experience. Zach plays

a different set every night as an ultimate expression of living in the moment,

with the hopes of opening windows to people’s souls to remind them of how

good it feels to be alive.
